Turnstone Tips: Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month is observed every April, with the goal of raising awareness about the causes and cures for modern stress. The month serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritising mental health and seeking support when needed. This year the theme #LittleByLittle has inspired Team Turnstone to come up with some tips when coping with stress in the workplace.

The first step is to identify the causes of your stress, what are they and what is causing them? Once you have identified the problem you can begin to come up with solutions. 💡

Exercise: Exercise is a fantastic way to clear your head. Exercise releases the feel-good endorphin hormone, reducing the potency of stress related hormones. Regular exercise also contributes to a healthier lifestyle. If you feel good in yourself, you will be better equipped to deal with what life throws at you. 🏋️‍♂️

It is vital that you establish boundaries. Learning to say no to additional responsibilities is ok and will help protect your free time and energy. More time for yourself allows you to focus on the things that make you happy, reducing stress. 🛑

Prioritise: Breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks allows you to focus on one task at a time. Focusing on the next step instead of the summit frees you from fixation, thus reducing anxiety and stress. 📝

Time Management: Use tools like calendars, planners, or apps to organise your schedule and allocate time for tasks, relaxation, and self-care activities. ⏰

Sleep: Adequate rest is fundamental to reducing stress. Sleep allows the body to recover and allows you to switch off. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night by establishing a relaxing bedtime routine and creating a comfortable sleep environment. 😴

Eat Well: Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid excessive caffeine, sugar, and processed foods, which can contribute to stress and mood fluctuations. 🥗

Engage in Hobbies: Dedicate time to activities you enjoy, whether it’s reading, gardening, painting, or playing a musical instrument. Engaging in hobbies can help distract your mind from stressors and promote relaxation. 🎨

Talk to someone if stress is becoming overwhelming. Getting things off your chest is a tried and proven method and allows you to feel unburdened! 🗣️
