Celebrate World Environment Day with us today, 5th June 2023! This year’s theme focuses on the critical issue on plastic pollution, under the campaign of #BeatPlasticPollution🌍🍃♻️

So, What is the Issue?

Currently, more than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once. A worrying amount of plastic ends up in our lakes, seas, rivers and landfills sites, making it one of the greatest threats to our planet🌍💚🌱

How can Businesses Reduce their Plastic Consumption to Promote World Environment Day?🌍🍃♻️

  • Switch any packaging that you use to re-usable, recyclable, or compostable materials.
  • Provide a water station in the workplace, so employees are encouraged to bring a re-usable bottle to work as opposed to a single use plastic water bottle.
  • Invest in enough plates, glasses and cutlery for the workplace, so employees do not need to take plastic crockery from takeaways or from home.
  • Offer incentives or monthly challenges for employees who make effort to reduce their plastic consumption.
  • Where possible, choose sustainable options from suppliers. These are becoming more common and available.

How can Businesses Celebrate World Environment Day in their Workplace?🌍💚🌱

There are many ways to celebrate World Environment Day in an organisation. Here are some suggestions to consider today and every day:

  • Arrange a clean-up activity around your premises, picking up litter and unnecessary clutter lying around. This is a great way to involve employees in a worthy activity and show that you are an environmentally responsible company.
  • Make a commitment to recycling. Consider purchasing additional recycling bins to locate around your premises, and make employees aware of how they can segregate their waste to be more environmentally conscious.
  • This World Environment Day, plant a tree in your grounds if this is possible. It helps absorb pollutant gases and purifies the air.
  • Promote World Environment Day through your social media platforms and connections. The more people that are aware of simple ways to protect our planet, the greater the progression will be.
